I am sure
when you think of an excavator you think we are experts at hauling and playing
in the dirt. We do so much more than haul and move dirt around. Our profession
also means that we don’t just work in the dirt we are always working with General
Contractors, Engineers, Homeowners, Realtors, DOT, and Architects. Digging for a living is certainly no small
and simple task. Every operator has-to-be extensively trained in operating
heavy equipment. We use powerful machinery such as backhoes and bulldozers to
tear into the earth. The work that an excavation contractor does requires much
skill to be able to dig around and search for underground water, gas and
electrical lines. Excavating must be done to precise measurement, so you must
know how to operate the equipment and how to do the job. The excavator must be
trained and be able to precisely dig to guarantee the building’s integrity.
Excavators must follow plans for the landscape project, lawn, swimming pool,
underground gas lines, water lines, driveway, roads, septic system, dredging, and
site development to ensure the project is done to standards. There are
certification courses available to advance education in this field as well as
Department of Environmental Protection training.
