Gravel, And Stone, And Rock - Oh My!

Aggregate, also known as "construction aggregate," refers to materials such as gravel, stone, rock, rip-rap, stone dust, screened loam, and overage stone. The gravel, stone, rip-rap, and rock can come in various sizes depending on your needs. Aggregate products such as these can be purchased for various home and construction projects.

One such home project, for example, could be adding crushed stone to a garden or driveway. Homeowners choose to do this because visually it looks nice, and it can also help with drainage of water. Aggregate is most commonly used in construction to make concrete. Concrete is made from three different components which are aggregate (such as rock, gravel, or sand, water), and Portland cement. Portland cement, for those not familiar, is made from limestone and clay. When water is added, it hardens.
